Leilani M. Brown is Senior Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and External Engagement for K12, Inc. (NYSE: LRN). K12 is the leading and largest provider of virtual and online education to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. In this role, Leilani creates public and private partnerships for the benefit of students in addition to driving cross-functional strategic initiatives on behalf of the chairman.
Prior to joining K12, Leilani was chief marketing officer for Starr Companies, a global insurance and investment organization. She has also held marketing leadership roles for major companies including The Economist Group, MetLife and American International Group.
Leilani is also the author of From Campus to Cubicle: 25 Tips for Your First Professional Year, a career guide for young professionals and recent graduates. A frequent host and event moderator, Leilani serves as the host for ELC’s virtual learning platform Lessons From The Top and this is her fourth appearance as the host for the Mid-Level Managers Symposium.
Leilani has been recognized by various organizations including being named to the DM Hall of Femme, Black Enterprise’s Power 300, and Savoy Magazine’s Top 100 Blacks in Corporate America. In 2016, Leilani was named a Woman of Power & Influence by the National Organization of Women (NOW).
Leilani serves on the board of Middlebury College, her alma mater and the Executive Leadership Council, the premier membership organization for global black executives. She is also a graduate of New York University.
